Unable to open office 2002 documents

Okay anyone ever had this problem ?

Client called me and told me she was unable to open any documents and that when attempting to open documents from both word and excel the program would freeze , so i remotely connected and after clicking open the selecting the drop down list .. her word/excel would just freeze ???

Any reasons for this to happen ??
if so any fix I can do ??

Have any changes been made on the workstation? (Software updates, patches etc.?)

There have been no changes to the workstation as Im aware ?
I did read that this problem can happen once XP service pack one is installed but this was already installed when the documents were openning ?

Any sugesstions ?
