there's some hard disk space missing

I have a 1.5 TB external drive. It shows 300 GB free.

If I select all the folders in the E drive, rather than selecting the drive itself, I see only 464 GB occupied.

Now I did this some months ago, with similar results. After that I was advised to use WinDirStat. That made me realize the lost space is due to my backups. I'm running it now and I dont see any indication of that, but since I saw it in the past I'll assume that's still the case.

When I go to Manage Windows Backup Disk Space, over there it shows how much space is being used by backups.

Data File Backup - 86 GB
Sys Image - 548 GB
Other Files - 467 GB
Free Space - 295 GB
Total Size - 1.36 TB

When I go to Data File Backups it shows the backup I have, from 5/25 - 10/18 is 86 GB. There's only one there.

So it seems like the previous backup got hidden somehow? Not sure. Either way I'd like to erase it. I'm OK if I lose all backups and I can just backup again.

I've been stuck on this for months. I'd be very grateful for any help.

Thanks
Dan

In the same area (the Manage Windows Backup Disk Space) you should be able to select and delete backups that you don't want/need. Just delete them all if you don't need them, then reboot and check your drive space again.
