Hello The sound card(s) I'm looking at to install in a desktop I plan on using for a music server as listed as needing a 2g dual core cpu
Because this computer will only be used as a music server does it really need that type cpu?
mine has a pen 4 hyper threading 3.06g 1mb cache
and I can upgrade that to a 3.80g 2mb cashe if that be needed..
this is for recording anolog to c/d and music playback to a hifi set up using optical in/outs.
I'm not sure if the Creative SB1040 Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI-E Sound Card
http://www.amazon.com/Creative-SB104...I2IX8LJ6811N00

would do what I'm trying to do.. and that one the requirements are = to this desktop.
as it is now it's running xp but dell moderators on their forum said I can load w7 64 bit.
if I go with the soundcard listed above and install the w7 64bit o/s would the 3.80g 2mb cashe help or will it even matter the one in it now runs at 533mhz the 3.80g runs at 800mhz
and the new ram is 800mhz
the 3.8g pen 4 I found a new one cheap enough 68.00
just don't know if it's needed for what I plan on doing with this unit.
any insite would be great..
And yes getting a newer computer would be the best route, but this one has at most 100 hours on it.. so it's new just outdated..

THe card I was told would be killer for what I plan on doing is
Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD Internal Sound Card with THX SB1270
http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Blast...s=soundblaster

this one is listed as needing a intel core duo or better.. but again I'm not sure if they rate it's requirements like that because most people would be doing other things while the soundcard was in use..
