Machine has just been restored, and when asked to shutdown, it restarts.

I've googled, and have had no luck so far.

Has anyone got any ideas?

I've tried these sites
Windows XP restarts when you try to shut down your computer

Windows XP Shutdown Troubleshooter

I've already use 'My Vaio' to update the machine.

I've applied XP SP3

No joy...

SP3 is in Beta and not finalized. It is not for casual use as it does not get any support from Microsoft.

Because its not released to the public yet, only for testing. Your possibly asking for help for a fix that might not be known if your issue is related to SP3. Unless you are referring to Office XP SP3

The problem was there with and without the presence of XP SP3.

I didn't scan the restored machine as advised.

I did however install the seemingly unrelated BIOS patch for "more efficient power management" as Sony sneakily put it.
Turns out the efficient power management was a bunch of lousy Vaio's rebooting all the time.

This solved the problem.

Sony support can't even call a spade a spade. In my book,
efficient power mananagement != reboot on shutdown
Even on the support call, they are more concerned with my contact details that actually solving the problem. I'm going to puta 50% premium on top of my current rates just for Vaios. They are so bad.
