Can you put excel on a server where other computers on the network have access to the program without having excel on their computer? Is this called an app server?

If yes... is there anyway to have a certain excel file open by multiple computers on the network and as the file is modified by one user it "live" updates that modification so that ever computer user sees it? Another words if I was to delete a row, without saving and exiting the file, the other users see the update?

So,
#1 - can a server serve up a program to multiple computers simultaneously.

#2 - does every computer have to have excel installed on it?

#3 - can a file update LIVE to all accessing it without having to save & close on all computers?

Thanks,
Mark W

A better alternative for multiple people editing a single file at the same time would be Google Sheets. Multiple people can't have the same document open and edit it at the same time like that. Excel will lock it to only 1 user for writing. Everybody else will have read-only copies, and no it won't live update. Google Sheets however will.

This converts an excel file and can be live updated while multiple computers has it open? > this is based on being online though, correct?

Yes you can export it as an Excel file.

Yes it can be opened/updated by multiple people at one time.

Yes it requires an active internet connection to use, because you will be signed into Google Drive to use Sheets.

As carnage said, you can do something similar with windows server by presenting Excel using Citrix published application to the other computers. The issue you will run into is that only one person could access a writable copy of a document at once. Others could open the document but in read only mode. This is just how MS works, not necessarily a windows server issue.

You are best to look at other solutions.
