mpeg file not opening! any player help?

i cant open an mpeg file either with windows media player or real player or divix.

it gives error "class not registered" & cant download any codecs.

which player can i use to see this movie file?

any ideas please please!???

Try PowerDVD. Maybe it's MPEG-2 encoded. You could also try to install some MPEG-2 codecs for windows media player.

I was just kidding!!! Download media player 10:

and Codecs: http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Codec_Installation_Package_for_Windows_Media_Player_7_8_9_10.htm If the specific codec is not contained in media player 10.

i downloaded VLC and it works like a chum.

BTW i am such a novice i dont even know what codecs are & how exactly one must install them!?

Codecs are used to compress and decompress video data. The codecs you should definetely download and install are DivX, Xvid, WMV7 and AC3 Filter. Those are the ones you need for most video's. Don't install any codec packages cause they can screw up your system and install unneccesary crap.

I don't know how to get mpeg-2 compressed files to play in Windows Media player.
