I accidentally clicked a bad link and allowed a program named Adobe Player admin privileges on my laptop. After shutting it down and starting it up again, 5 folders of important documents (school-related, job related) as well as several movies and ALL my music disappeared from my desktop. When I search for these files, I can't find them on my computer. I really need these files back.

Here's a hijacklog and MBAM log.

You do realize that by removing the infection doesnt mean that you get your files back right? The infection could have straight up deleted them and not just denied you access to them. So I dont know what your goal is by posting this up here. There is nothing listed in either log. You will have to NOT install any software other than Recuva or another data recovery program and run that to try and get your files back. If not your going to be spending money to have a pro do it.

Lesson to learn....BACKUP.

But I lost at least 10GBs of data. The free space/used space on my C drive hasn't changed. Any reason to explain that?
EDIT: can you recommend other professional data recovery tools other than Recuva? I have that already and it's not showing my files.

How can I explain the thinking of a hacker and virus writer? Sorry but you will have to contact them and ask them.

They could have easily replaced your data with other data to turn you machine into a Zombie machine so they can use it for their purposes anytime they want. Maybe they just tricked your install to think you still have the data when you dont. Maybe you do still have the data but they removed it from searches.

I cant begin to explain anything like that cause I did not create it nor do I think like them. Clearly the infection is good to hide from detection of programs like MBAM and HiJack This and is still present despite the programs not showing it. So you will have to try something else to clean the machine like ComboFix, Safe Mode or using a tool like Linux LiveCD's to get your data off of there and format and reinstall Windows.

Recuva is not a professional tool. It is a free tool that you can get online. There are no professional tools that you can get for free. They all cost thousands of dollars.

Sorry for not researching the extent of virus damage beforehand, but I panicked when I saw the damage it had done. I'll be sure to backup the rest of my files from now on.

Thanks

EDIT: I FIXED IT. All the infection did was modify the missing folders' properties to Hidden. I viewed the hidden files and it seems like that's all that's really happened.

I was going to suggest that you Google for a little program called Unhide but you already found them.
