when i plug in my flash drive on xp, theres still that magical sound, but the drive itself doesnt appear on my computer, nor on the system tray. when i plug it on ubuntu though, its still read. whats wrong?

Tried reinstalling chipset drivers? Is it recognized in Disk Management? (Start > Right click 'My Computer' > go to Manage... > click Disk Management on the left-side panel). See if its recognized in there or not.

no its not there. its good that its still read in ubuntu.

What format is the USB Thumb Drive in? Sounds like it is in FAT format which is not recognized by Vista. Make sure that it is in at least FAT32 format.

Ok so i opened device manager and i found my flash drive. It said "No drivers installed for this device(no wonder it wasnt working)." So i clicked "update driver" but after i ran it it said "The wizard could not find a better match for the hardware than the software you currently have installed." What should i do?

Go to the Manufacturer's website, download the executable and double click it.
