Increasing Windows volume when its at MAX?

Hi,

Just wondering, is there any type of software around that allows you to increase the volume of whats coming out of the speakers even when windows audio settings are set to the maximum?

The monitor I use at work has built in speakers but the volume is so quiet, even at maximum level!

No, not with out creating distortion to the sound. You need a pair of powered speakers that have there own amplifier. You can go with a simple 2 speaker or a 7.1 surround system.

if you're playing media files, i know that VLC lets u pump the volume to 200% but of course this will cause distoriton, but it might be reasonable at 150% volume.

Or you can get a new sound card

When my surround sound thingy (whatever it is) was dying, I could barely hear the sound at all, I had to maximize the equalizer to be able to understand anything, but yes, that will create distortion to the sound.
