I need help and video editing software that works on Win 7

I have a lady who want me to convert these high school kids videos to showcase their talents for college. she wants me to edit their highlights from dvd (I can do this) to one personal file for each one of them.

Then she want me to add their name and info at the beginning of each file, then circle their number or point an arrow to them show that the colleges can see them.

now how would I do the second part? the program that i used to use don't even work on vista much less win 7 and xp mode is not helping me out on this

is it easier to use than the instructions is making it seem?

never used it. i found it while searching for an open source alternative to adobe after effects.

a lot of people are saying it's prone to crash and hard to learn.

I've always used Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas.
