Okay so originally IE was running very slow ran AVG 9.0 virus scanner from safe mode and nothing.. Ran Malwarebytes and still nothing. At this point I figured it was hardware and decided on a new build, machine is pretty old anyway. It would run fine for awhile and then bog down, way down... CPU usage showed nothing abnormal and my processes seemed good to my untrained eye. The a few days later AVG said it couldn't load. That's when I knew it had to be a virus/spyware something... I used Microsoft Safety Scanner from safe mode and it found 3 non-descript JAVA corruptions and one Trojan.Downloader. I booted back up and no difference so I ran the Malicious tool and the safety scanner and now they find nothing. So where is the booger hiding?

I use windows 7 and IE8

I attempted this but combofix won't run. An error comes up stating:

"Combofix cannot run when AVG is installed.
This is due to AVG's targeting of Combofix's files/processes.
It would be dangerous to continue.

Please uninstall AVG or use another tool."

What is the official recommendation then?

Update: Deleted AVG we'll see where that gets me..

Wow I wasn't aware combofix worked on Win vista/7 hehe shows how much I use it. It's a pretty powerful little piece of malware removal utility... that's good to know. Let us know if that doesn't fix the issue.

Combofix was just recently updated to work with Win7 and x64. ;)
