I can't update vista successfully

After I clean installed windows vista today I noticed that every time I try to install updates through Windows Updater the computer fails to reboot and forces me to run system restore. I can download and install other programs and restart fine, but if I allow vista to update itself the computer will not restart. Does anyone have an idea of what could be happening or what I should do?

Oh, and I have about 11 svhost.exes running for some reason. I hope i didn't catch a virus already.

Is your time and date settings correct? I know that if they are not it can mess things up.
