How Does This Build Look (~$700)?

Hello everyone..

Yes, another, how does this build look, thread, sorry! I've been out of the PC game for like 10+ years but my bro wants to build a PC for about $1,000 which includes new monitor + windows.

General use + Fortnite (lol). Here are the recommended reqs for Fortnite:

Nvidia GTX 660 or AMD Radeon HD 7870 equivalent DX11 GPU.
2 GB VRAM.
Core i5 2.8 Ghz.
8 GB RAM.

Here is the build I've put together. Are there any places he can save a buck or two, or should spend a buck or two more on a part (CPU maybe, Ryzen? - is the i3 good enough for Fortnite? or on PSU)?

Thanks in advance.

As much as I appreciate a good PSU 750W is extremely overkill for this rig.

You can also save a few bucks by getting a B360 board.

This PSU would be more than enough.

The i3 would be plenty for Fortnite, but with saved cash you could move up to an i5 8400, up to you. I would consider the 1050ti.

Excellent, thanks for the feedback. The CPU upgrade there looks very nice. I was just wary to get a mobo that cheap due to lack of reviews.

Will make the change to the PSU.

Will talk to my bro about upgrading the video card as well.

Thanks again.

The crappy thing about the current state of affairs is the fact that GPU prices and RAM prices are still astronomical. There are lawsuits on the RAM price fixing finally and with Bitmain's release of an ASIC for GPU mining GPU prices are finally falling. Up to you to wait, or you can just upgrade later when you can.

Food for thought, 80 bucks used to get you 16GB of 3000MHz DDR4, and 200 bucks used to get you a 3GB 1060. It should get back down to that eventually.

Lack of reviews comes from them not being out for very long. 370 boards have been out for over 6 months now. The GPU step up would help more than the CPU step up also.

Edit: I'll also add this edit, if you plan on upgrading to anything seriously powerful in the future, that Thermaltake PSU or something like an eVGA 650W G3 would go a long ways in terms of not needing to ever upgrade your PSU.

Crazy about the pricing. Last time I was keeping up with the PC game was when the HDD's were super inflated.

Going with the 1050ti, but from Amazon ($180 after $10 MIR): https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814137056

Going with the i5-8400 + the mobo suggested above.

Everything else pretty much staying the same. My brother will be ordering tonight. I'll update the thread once I get my hands on the parts. It's been a long time since I've built a PC!
