FAA Says Hackers Broke Into Agency Computers

Hackers broke into the Federal Aviation Administration's computer systems and stole information on 45,000 employees, including names and social security numbers. While I know this whole incident is bad, it could have been much worse, at least they didn't get into the air traffic control system.

The agency said in a statement Monday that two of the 48 files on the breached computer server contained personal information about employees and retires who were on the FAA's rolls as of the first week of February 2006. The server that was accessed was not connected to the operation of the air traffic control system and there is no indication those systems have been compromised, the statement said

Thats hard to believe... Would assume the FFA has really high coding/firewalls wouldn't ya think?

Nope not at all, any system can be compromised don't matter how much you spend on security products if there is a bug that can be exploited it will be at some point. Not to mention the meat ware factor, how often do you see work owned laptops on a public network at a airport, coffee shop at home etc?

A US Ambasador visited Peking last year for the Olympics - with almost no protection on his laptop, and someone right there in Peking started spying like ****, ultimately got busted - but my point is, any wonder where tons of sensitive information (military, political, etc) comes from ? ****ed up meatware, as Saxon says.
