I've never met a techie that wore ESD protection unless they were teaching noobs how to take care of their computers. You probably won't need one unless you're dumb enough to fix your computer in a carpeted room, wearing socks, and shuffling your feet, while holding a lightning rod in an electrical storm.

but i thought lightening rods were the safest things to be around during a storm? if you can't afford an ESD wriststrap and have braces on your teeth just use some car jumpers to ground yourself to the case
