Error Code 80070490, cannot do system restore

ok so back on 12/5, i updated Windows Defender to Definition 1.49.88.0. Ever since then, i couldnt run Windows Update properly. I did have like 1 or 2 viruses but idk if that caused my file system to be corrupted. I had hardly any problems before that update.

i cannot do system restore because my file system is corrupted. What are my options besides backing up my data?

EDIT:

ok so i was looking in my logs from Kaspersky 7.0 n i found (and remember) 1 virus i killed off. Idk how dangerous they are but here it is:

Using low end antivirus is worse then none at all, just because you think you're being safe it isn't really protecting you.
Using something that is more proactive is the best investment you can do for your machine to run smoothly but sounds like you have a corrupted registry.

The best AV I know are AVG and Panda both are very pro-active. all the others I have tried are just kidding when it comes to really protecting you
