When I insert a DVD into the drive, nothing happens. I'm not sure how to open the drive in Linux. I tried mounting it, but it said I needed to specify a filesystem and i have no idea how to do that. It's detected as "/dev/hdc". Any advice?

I had installed VLC already.

I just realized I was being very unclear. I was trying to read a DVD with files on it. Sorry 'bout the confusion.

He also needs libdvdcss to watch movies.

To get files you need to mount it, gnome mounts it automatically but since you are using XFCE you probably have to do it manually.

mkdir /media/cdrom
mount /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom

I just tried doing that.

"Mount: you must specify the filesystem type" is the error I get when I try the second step. The first folder already exists.
