I have movies in MKV format and would like to know of a reasonably prices software to convert them to play on my wife's iPad2. ANy help is appreciated. Thanks!

If handbrake is too complex for you, I'd try MKVTools 2.4.7
It's not free ($4.99), but it's pretty decent and a lot more beginner friendly. You can use it for free, there's just wait periods when opening video files, and annoying reminders to register it.

Sheepykins, MKV is just a container. No harm putting it in an m4v, just don't change anything else.

I could of sworn there was atleats one iPad app with MKV support.

If you plan on using it just for home, AirPlayer is a fantastic app. It will live convert any video files on your PC, and stream them to your iPad. This has two benefits, 1) You can aquire and watch any format of video at any quality, your PC does all the heavy work 2) It takes up much less space on your iPad.

I havn't used the App in about a year, but i think you can convert it "offline", so it pre-converts it before watching, you may also be able to store the converted video on your iPad but my memory is a bit sketchy on this part.
