Can't connect?

Hey I just finished building my first pc and when I plug the ethernet cable into the pc from my modem, it won't connect to the internet. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

Update the driver, make sure the Ethernet controller is installed. Just had this happen on my cousins computer, Vista said it recognized the ethernet card / controller but it would not connect to the Internet (couldn't even ping the modem).

After installing the driver from the CD that came with the motherboard it worked like a charm.
