anyway i can know if a firewall has been installed on a local machine

hello,

is there any way i can know if a local machine (laptop/desktop) has a firewall installed. i mean a laptop or desktop that i am using, can i do some sort of loopback tests on a range of tcp and udp ports?

start, control panel, add-remove programs? A firewall wouldn't be hidden from the user. WIndows firewall is easy to find, it's in control panel.
