4k is manageable with crossfired 290x's or even 280x's. You can switch off AA in the games graphic settings to gain some frames as 4k res compensates for it ive read. If your getting 4k youll need...

GPU to DP 1.2 for video and receiver for audio

Hi there, simple scenario here. Im going to purchase a 4k monitor and plan to run my R9 280x's in crossfire to the monitor via displayport 1.2 cable for the video and via HDMI cable to my receiver...

ok im goin back on what i said, dont think i can wait and cant see myself suffering long term from this decision. Think ive mostly nailed down the system which keeps well within my budget...

yeah just realised about 10 minutes ago that im looking at the wrong socket set. Scrap that haha. Head is pretty jam packed with components :P

In regards to the GPU ill also be keeping my eye on ATI prices. Being a current ATI owner and nvidia in the past im completely open to switching sides whern the price is right :)

my choice of GPU could possibly change in a few months when haswell arrives. if i can save cash on not having to buy new soundcard and in a couple of other areas, i might bump it up to later...

Not with 4870x2 cards, the adapter that comes with this card is a DVI-VGA if i remember. As the card doesnt have HDMI ports, i cant use a standard HDMI cable as nice and easy as that sounds :(

sadly, my crappy DVI to HDMI cable doesnt support audio. Only realised this after 3 hours or so of trying to figure out why my HDMI audio kept saying 'unplugged'. I have to buy this special...

so just to confirm, using that option in the driver will allow the sound from my X-fi to be passed directly through video card output into receiver? Just checkig this...

ok can you go into a bit more detail as to how audio gets out through my video card? It transmits from the soundcard through the mainboard and out via video card HDMI? Does it require some of those...

Just what i needed thanks, ill make the change and push purchase out a little to get new core. I had the pricing wrong, it was more like 1.5k than 2k.
