Re: Laptop budget $1500 - Non gaming

I haven't used mesh wifi before but I'm old school and feel that no matter what, you're going to come out with inferior results compared to hardwired access points and would recommend that if it's at...

Re: Computer Upgrades for a low budget

You'd have to do some case modding to allow a laptop to mount in a desktop case, if you did it, you'd still be stuck with the problem that laptops have inputs/outputs on 2-4 sides usually and won't...

Re: How to get windows to recognize second hard drive

Looks like a pretty old thread but, nonetheless....

If you wanted the data on it, you'll need to recover the partition. Some Linux tools are pretty good for this, you can run them on an Ubuntu (or...

Re: Unusually noisy computer

Being Pentium 4 era, I'd always attribute a noisy computer that's unstable to overheating. You probably need to ensure that the CPU cooler is clean, powered and apply new thermal interface material...

Re: Ubuntu 12.10 or Linux Mint 14?

I'm in love with Mint and the Cinnamon desktop. I'm a long time Debian and Ubuntu fan and it's won me over.

Re: Why I think Ubuntu 12.10 Sucks

Taylor, are you a first time linux user? I've been using variants of Debian since ~2003-04 (which Ubuntu is based on), once you're familiar with the function of the operating system I find it to be...

Re: The What You've just Bought thread!

I picked up Assassin's Creed 3 for XB360 and AC3 Liberation for Vita. Both are great games but I've encountered quite a number of bugs and in the case of Liberation this has severely dulled the...

Re: wine?

Open up a terminal (with Cinnamon press Windows key, type "term" and it should find it), type:

sudo apt-get install wine

And hit enter, follow the prompts. Once you've got wine installed it...

Re: LOL. Wrong image used by huge retailer when promoting windows 8

Harper, what makes you say it's wrong? I daresay this is deliberately tongue in cheek by them. Harvey Norman have shown themselves to have a sense of humour in the past.

Re: The What You've just Bought thread!

Yeah, I aimed for something solid and midrange as opposed to my attitude with guitars where I bought a lot of junk. Haven't put much of a constructive effort in yet to learn it, mostly messing around...

Re: Election 2012

Sports fans, that's a great analogy that I agree with. It's similar in politics over here but I'd say with a bit less fanaticism than I see (at least from the news that makes it here) than the US. At...

Re: What you rather have? Only One is permited?

#1, no contest. You might also want to consider that we do have members of TF that at least claim to be female though I have not been present to verify in person ;).

Re: WMA2 Transcoding

I've religiously used CBR audio on my rips for the last 5+ years, I've always found that to be a problem.

Re: Headset adapter xbox controller

It's a single channel of audio+mic, you can tell by the connector too; there's 3 contacts which is one ground plus a signal each for audio out and mic in.
