he isn't going to get a new mobo, those servers are veeeeeeery proprietary. I would install windows and go from there....there isn't anything saying you must use linux. there also isn't anything saying for it to be a "server" you must have the "server" OS installed.

hahah ok well 1st of all if that is like any dell poweredge i've worked with when you fire it up its going to sound like 4 hair dryers blowing at full blast.....so i don't think you'll be using that in your home, unless its a sound proof basement. Linux will read NTFS but from the sound of it...

So i've got a group of people that want to share some work with an outside team. Docs, xls, PDF etc... BUT they don't want the outside team accessing the server. We have been testing out dropbox putting all the work they need to access on dropbox and letting dropbox sync the server so everything...

yea i know thats pretty much what i need to do........just seeing if anyone figured out any shortcut processes *ugh* guess not :-P lots of reinstalling in my future.

cause i'll just ghost over bad data. its beyond a chkdsk, i ran sfc in verify only mode and it pulled back 1,000's of corrupt system files, i've got side by side errors on programs, had to reinstall lots of VC++ runtimes just to get it back in 1/2 way working order. If i leave normal word docs...

you'd really have to setup a traffic analyzer on your network and let it data log and give you reports.

As far as I know that only works when everything proper is installed and won't do any other snooping then that. Is that correct??? right now the pad driver is PS/2 mouse and works great, other then the scroll thing.

no model number....serial number doesn't register in their system. *thumbs down* worst support ever! Even if I could somehow get to that point, they'd all be 32 bit drivers.

yea this is kind of a mystery machine, it had a really messed up version of vista 32, i've installed vista 64 and i've hunted all the drivers down. Of course the touchpad works just fine but its not using the custom driver and I'll probably never figure out what kind of touchpad it really is.

does anyone know of any software you can install on a laptop to get the touch pad some new features such as the scroll bars?
