My motherboard is way little too high with stand offs for the I/O plate, without stand offs it goes in fine. Am I not supposed to use standoffs? please help

Turns out my mobo doesn't go with me cpu. I have a AM2+ cpu and an AM3 MOBO, which do not go together, now i have to order another cpu and and wait again :(
