I would say X1900 would be allot better than the 7800.

I have the E260. It plays video and is very compatible with everything. Downside, you have to charge with USB port. But my comp is always on so no prblem for me.

If you know for sure that you will jump right on quad core then yes. Also keep in mind that there will be better QC boards out when you are ready to switch. I'd say no and just wait till you are ready again.

It's hard to tell someone what to get. Make sure it's a good brand name and has good reviews. I've asked "what to get" before and you get a plethora (like that?) of answers.

If all those things don't help then look into a new Power Supply.

I've always ran Plextor. Always had luck. I got a Samsung lightscribe not to long ago and that burns really well.
