    New graphics card not working

I have bought a new Sapphire X1550 graphics card and placed it into my old motherboard, an Asus A7S8X MX. The graphics card was to replace the onboard graphics but upon plugging the card in and wiring it up (the fan does spin) the monitor remains in the "standby" position. No information is...

    Computer doesn't boot

Turns out to be the PSU, the old one at 450W wasn't powerful enough to boot. Bought a 500W version and it works. That however isn't the end of the story:- Windows gets to the green scrolly bar thing right at the beginning and the system re-boots. This is constant. Safe Mode tells me to allow or...

    Computer doesn't boot

Hi there, my friends computer was working fine. She went out for a couple of hours and when she came back it was off. On trying to switch it back on nothing happens. She brought it round to my house to have a quick look and there was no BIOS beeps at all and no signal getting to the monitor. All...

Formatting partition outside of Windows ?

No, I'm sure the Windows disk would have worked but I was prompted to use the Maxtor drive utility MaxBlast 4. This played with the partition for a few seconds, told me it had sorted it out. I then used Windows Disk Management utility to format the drive. It didn't hang as before and is whisking...

Formatting partition outside of Windows ?

Sorry Artik2, I was posting whilst you were and didn't see your post. I have a motherboard that doesn't support floppy drives therefore I can't use a Windows 98 bootdisk :(

Formatting partition outside of Windows ?

It's a lone drive (not the only drive, it just happens to be on it's own IDE slot with it's own IDE cable) connected to the computer along with some other drives connected the same way via there own IDE cables and connectors. It doesn't have Windows on it. The three partitions that work have...

Formatting partition outside of Windows ?

Yes I did try this and it doesn't work, Windows just hangs. No this drive is not slaved to another drive. It's a lone drive with four partitions, one of which is corrupt and any attempt to format it within the Windows GUI results in nothing happening.

Formatting partition outside of Windows ?

Your almost correct, it is a multiple partitioned drive but Windows isn't on the drive. I has four partitions with this one partition corrupt. Any attempt at formatting within the Windows GUI hangs Windows. I will however try what you suggest, it sounds logical (no pun intended)

Formatting partition outside of Windows ?

Nope done that, the Disk Manager says "Formatting" but no % sign or number come up after it, basically it stays at 0% forever. That's why I want to try it outside the Windows GUI to see if it will work without Windows hanging.

Formatting partition outside of Windows ?

I'm trying to format a partition that got corrupted a long time ago. I has been unused since being corrupted and I am now trying to resurrect the partition because I'm running out of space. It is only a temporary fix until I can buy a new drive. The partition has nothing on it but Windows can't...

Formatting partition outside of Windows ?

I mean can I format the partition outside of the Windows GUI, as in when the system is just booting up ?

Formatting partition outside of Windows ?

Is there a way to format a partition outside of Windows. I have tried to do it within Windows but nothing happens, it just says "Formatting" forever :(

    Upgraded computer doesn't work

Although I had to go back to the shop on two occasions I can't fault the men behind the counter. I chose the mobo, chip, and RAM without asking questions. I just naturally assumed that a 775 chip would work with any 775 mobo, oops. Since none of the products were faulty, they could have charged...
