Hello guys
I've tried everything so I'm wondering if my conclusion that this old box is not capable of higher transfer rates than 33mbit/s is correct?
I have tried 3 different Unix OS's on it from, Redhat, Centos, FreeBSD and the results are all the same. In each case I verify the NIC is...
Basically you create a link on your website to another website and they do the same on theirs.
The idea is that if done right your search engine rankings will improve due to your site being more popular and having more links to it.
You can also get extra traffic if visitors of the other site...
Find a DNS provider that lets you do the forwarding or get a host and actually host the domain you are trying to use.
You could also try to get your current host to add a "vhost" entry for the domain you want (they will probably charge you a fee).
That horrible but unfortunately common with so-called free trials and cheap companies.
If they charge your card do a charge back (assuming you are within the trial period)
They can't just upgrade your account to being paid during a trial period without your consent.
I would give them options...
Well you can't get around paying for a domain name but you can buy them for about $10 US
Web hosting is not too expensive but there are a lot of really horrible companies out there in the low-end.
You could use your home computer for web sites if they don't need to be fast loading and you...
You don't need to do use different computers or ports.
You can host many web sites on the same computer and same port.
It is called a vhost entry in Apache for example.
I think it should backup all of the data.
I did some poking around and it seems it all goes into a single backup file that only Plesk can read.
This means that you can't just extract your e-mails or database, web site from it as you please.
That is a huge drawback if you ask me.
Otherwise...
DomainsAreFree.com is $3.99
Beware of a lot of so-called cheap places though.
They will advertise a very low price but usually it's only if you buy another product/service with it. Otherwise the price is much higher.
As long as you have MySQL access you should be able to dump the database from your current site as you said.
If you have phpMyAdmin access (web interface for MySQL) on the new web site you should be able to create the database with the same name (or edit the .sql files that were backed up to...
Even if you could get one free, don't! They would probably register the domain in their name and hold it for ransom at a later time.
Just Google cheap domains and save yourself the hassle and trouble.
I get the feeling you might not have a credit card so ask someone nicely who trusts you if...
You'll need to make sure your ISP has not blocked port 80. Then you'll have to setup a port forward in your router that sends traffic on port 80 to your internal LAN address and you should be good to go.
If your ISP blocks port 80 you can switch the listening port to something like 81 or...
