found those sites already, they helped my original problem. My problem now isn't connecting, its keeping the connection/logging in. Doesn't seem to help that only some of my software "sees" my modem. I seem to think it might work if only kppp would work right.

Hmm, beginning to get farther. Using the pctel-0.9.6 drivers I'm able to get linux to detect/use my modem. Now my problem is that even though it dials, and the isp responds, I can't get it to connect, is there something else I should know? Now that I know that I can get it to connect somehow...

I've also noted that certain winmodems work in Linux with proper software, linmodems.... I found a list of pctel modems that do and don't work with the software, unfortunately, I can't seem to find which modem it specifically is, just says pctel platinum v.90.

Err, well, figured out why it doesn't work, now I have a different question before I go and buy a new, (non-win)modem. Does anyone know if it is possible to use a "PCTel platinum V.90" winmodem in Redhat linux? If so, how am I supposed to get it to work?

If it tells you anyhting about whether I fixed my problem or not, I'll just say that my computer doesn't have unix installed and yet I am here using unix...

Sucks.....alot, but luckily I'll have a new isp VERY soon, that does provide REAL shell accounts. Not one wtih lying tech support that calls ppp access a shell account...on purpose.

I take back what I said, I DON'T have a shell account, my ISP for some reason tends to think telling people that they have a shell account when the ISP doesn't even provide shell accounts will help them. No chance in hell I'm continueing with this ISP. Oh well, planned on leaving their crap...

no, I'm assuming this becuase I do as you say, and yet it still says wrong password whatever stuff. Its very frustrating, I know I have a shell account, I know how to use it, but I can't get to it.

What is happening regards Hyperterminal V 5.6, if that helps any. Problem is this, I can succesfully connect to my isp, enter my username, but when it requests the password, it will not accept input of any sort, typing on the keyboard, copy-paste, etc. does anyone know why?
