Wired (Vista) and wireless (Windows 7) on same network?

I shared the printer and then tried to add it to the laptop. No printers were found....I'm assuming this is because the two computers still aren't recognizing each other on my network, which I'm still not convinced is set up correctly. (pulls hair out) Do I need to install the printer...

Wired (Vista) and wireless (Windows 7) on same network?

There's something probably really obvious here I'm just not getting. So, I've determined they are on the same workgroup, but APPARENTLY they still don't see each other on the network. For instance, I have given full sharing permission for my pictures folder on the PC. How do I then view them on...

Wired (Vista) and wireless (Windows 7) on same network?

Okay, I found the IP's for both computers.....how do I ping them from the Command Prompt? Edit: Never mind, I figured it out. I pinged the laptop from my PC and it replied. So I guess they're on the same network. However, neither Network Sharing Center shows the other computer on the network.

Wired (Vista) and wireless (Windows 7) on same network?

Yes, this is the case. So why aren't the devices communicating with each other in the Easy File Transfer wizard?

Wired (Vista) and wireless (Windows 7) on same network?

I opened my Printer folder on the PC and shared it as you suggested. I then went to print a document from the laptop, but the printer doesn't show up as an option.... I still don't think the devices are communicating with each other...i.e.: are they really on the same network? See my 9:30 post....

Wired (Vista) and wireless (Windows 7) on same network?

Nuts. Okay, the shared folders on the PC are my printer, the printers folder, and the Public folder. What you can't see in the two Network Sharing Centers pictures is that on the PC, it shows MICHAEL-PC (green line) Network 3 (green line) Internet, and on the laptop it shows CHERYL-PC (green...

Wired (Vista) and wireless (Windows 7) on same network?

It shows this (hopefully you can see this clearly....the file is 350 kb on my desktop, but only 38 kb here...how do I make it bigger onscreen?):

Wired (Vista) and wireless (Windows 7) on same network?

And here is the screenshot from the laptop. Note the network name is different. I assumed in an earlier post that even though they are different names, that since they are connected to the same router that they were on the same network. Is this not correct?

Wired (Vista) and wireless (Windows 7) on same network?

Here's what it shows: (Note that the only computer shown on the Network is MICHAEL-PC. CHERYL-PC (the laptop) isn't there....)

Wired (Vista) and wireless (Windows 7) on same network?

Doh! Okay, I tried that from the laptop. I get an error message stating that Windows cannot access \\michael-pc\....there might be a problem with your network yada yada yada. I hit the diagnose button and it says to make sure the PC is turned on and connected to the network, which it is. At...

Wired (Vista) and wireless (Windows 7) on same network?

So what I hear you saying is, (remember, you're dealing with someone who's a little slow on the uptake) from the laptop which is named CHERYL-PC, I open up a browser window (we use Firefox) and type in this: \\<michael_pc>\ (the name of the desktop is "michael-pc") and hit enter, and it should...

Wired (Vista) and wireless (Windows 7) on same network?

Yes. For example, see my edited post above. But, when I try to use the Easy File Transfer Wizard, the computers don't communicate with each other. That, (again in my overly simplified mind) is the whole issue. I might be able to "share" a file folder full of pictures (I need to try that to...

Wired (Vista) and wireless (Windows 7) on same network?

I checked as per Strollin's suggestion, and it appears both computers are in the same Workgroup, which is called "Workgroup". The only difference is the names of the computers themselves.... Since they are both in the same Workgroup, why, when I try to do an Easy File Transfer using the wizard...

Wired (Vista) and wireless (Windows 7) on same network?

I'm sure this has been answered here before, but maybe the search phrase I'm using isn't zeroing in on the relevant threads. So: We have a PC running Vista 64 that is hard wired, and a laptop using Windows 7 that is using a wireless connection with the same router. I want to share some files...

    Installing older video driver

So, after a frustrating couple of hours uninstalling/restarting/installing drivers, I was finally able to get the oldest version I could get that supports my card installed. For whatever reason, it's never as easy for me as anyone else to do these things, even when I follow explicit directions...
