Ok I changed the cable and same thing. The drive acts like its recording but once it gets to the end it says that it failed due to a error or bad disk The disk are all new and it was the same result with the other disk that I was using.
Actually am not ignoring it just been trying all your suggestions and thank you all for help got it going had to transfer everything and ended up just reformating and all seem to be working fine now.
ok tried to get to the restore part and it did not worked. The biggest problem is everytime I try to boot it restarts without ever booting up. I did try booting with Windows disk and it wanted to repair wich would have deleted all my files. Is this the only way?
The dvd will read cds and even the cd-r will as well just not able to record or play dvd's I once remeber seeing something about a windows update that messed them up sometime back.
Whenever I tried to play DVDs I get this message.
"Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows"
Now I was able to play them before and now that is what I get. During the same time when this started happening...

yes it is a burner and are there any free dvd decoder or players i guess is the question? And as with the cd driver it wont let me record on them at all on the Dvd player it says that the disk is not recognize and it is a baught dvd.
