My guess actually would be the ram. Especially if you have more then 1 stick of ram and they are non matching sets, or made by different companies. I had a similar problem with my desktop when i was trying to play games and i pulled my 3rd stick of ram which was the only one made by a...
Well the card is not dead because you do have picture. It actually could be a number of things...not enough power to the card, actually could be a ram problem and not even a graphics card issue at all, defective graphics card. Since you do still have it on warrenty i would say call up ATI and...

Go there, in the middle of the page there is a free speed test. You will have to enter the type of connection you have and the state you live in and it will run a short test and give you the average speed in your area on that connection and you can see...
maybe some info about the drive...like brand and model. I will say it does sound like a very strange problem. I would have guessed that the drive was shorting out and causing the restart but i dont know why you would be able to get cd/dvd's working if you put them in at the login screen...
Found the fix to my problem and it was in the form of the ram. The stick of DDR2 that i was trying to boot with was Pc4200 and the board will not start with anything other then pc3200
Well i had a different fix to the solution. The ram i was using to boot up the system was the wrong speed of DDR. Aparently the Abit board will only start with a pc 3200 stick of DDR2 in Dimm 1 and my stick of PC 4200 was too fast. New stick and problem fixed.

I just swapped out PSU's and still nothing. Only difference i am having compared to tim's is that my MOBO is not giving me any error beeps with the card taken out of the machine. I am calling ABIT as we speak, i am starting to think that there could be something wrong with the PCI-E slot on...
I am having a similar problem with a computer i just put together at work. I am going to swap out the PSU with one that i had at home and give that a shot.
I have a mac and i use dell's (Pc's and laptops) at work. I have had zero problems with my mac and OMG laundry lists of problems with dells. The fact of that matter is that dell uses cheap parts, im not talking about the main components everyone looks at but im talking about keyboards, drive...
