Fixed
Fixed it.
For reference, this is a problem with Comcast modems, not the router.
To fix it, change your Network Options for TCP/IP protocol to use the following DNS addresses:
4 . 2 . 2. 2
4. 2. 2. 3
And it should work fine.
The Setup
Three Windows XP Computers
DI-604 (refurbished, if that matters) Router (D-Link)
DPC2100 WebStar Modem (using Comcast Cable Internet)
The Problem
Pure and simple, I can't connect to the internet. I can't even access the router configuration page (192.168.0.1) to change the settings...
Well... see.. the power supply is only transforming the power from the outlet into the voltage my comp uses. And when it fizzles and blows up, that's when I'll buy a new one -- because it won't make a difference in the long run if it doesn't ever happen.
I've always managed to get by on the case-standard PSU's. Of course, I only have 2 fans, 2 drives, and the rest of that crap. Computer hasn't shut down from power shortage yet, I'll keep you posted when one power transformer proves to be inferior to another.
I recently managed to shove all my extra computer components into a case I had lying around, utilizing a 60GB HD I found on the ground and other such castoffs. In any case, I planned to use the computer for some development stuff, low-level LANgaming, etc. I didn't have a PCI video card lying...
We have 2 PC's connected, currently, and one XBOX. We have one speedstream 5360 modem that the router is hooked up to.
The host computer for the LAN can connect to IP-hosted games, and can ping the other computer, while this one cannot ping the host computer.
I'm having problems connecting to IP-hosted game sessions on a windows 98 computer. Also, I can't ping the host computer of my LAN. I'm using an SMC Barricade SMC7004VBR router, as I said before. Any idea what setting I have to change to get through?
Motherboard, can't tell you that one...whatever comes with a dell.
GFX CARD:
GeForce 5700LE 256mb
(ok, that's probably not needed, but i'll show it off anyway)
PROCESSOR:
1.7Ghz P4
RAM:
1 gig of DDRAM
NIC:
D-Link DFE-530TX+
(as opposed to the previous CNET PRO200WL, that I replaced, and it...
