    Computer life span

you say it's on 24/7? I'm impressed it's lasted as long as it has, especially with the constant downloads. From my experience the average computer lasts about 3 years before you start seeing major hardware problems. My system just hit the three year mark a few months ago, and what do ya know...

    Your Opinion Appreciated

Provided the dual core would fit in the socket on your mobo, yeah. In all honesty though, it'll be alot cheaper to just start with what you need to begin with. If you don't need the computer right away, I'd wait till you had the money to get the dual core flat out, so you don't end up with a...

    Speeding Up the Page File

Yes I had heard that's a good idea. I'm in fact planning on doing that, but I'll need a new power supply first to support the extra HDD

    Speeding Up the Page File

ok so, I'm running a system that only supports Ultra ATA 133 or lesser drives. so what role if any does RPM and Cache have to do with read/write speed if any, and at what point do these things no longer provide any real benefit on a ATA 133 connection?

    Speeding Up the Page File

for future reference then, when games do take up an excesive amount of RAM what would be the current fastest alternative to standard hard drives for the page file?

    Speeding Up the Page File

yes I realize this, I'm just trying to plan ahead. Programs and games especially have only gotten more hardware intensive as time has gone on and demand for near real life graphics and performance has become ever more prominent. Most of the High end games of today recomend having at least 1 GB...

    Speeding Up the Page File

I can see how getting more RAM would help, obviously, but I don't see how completely disabling the page file would increase performance any. And really I'm trying to make my computer as fast as the motherboard and current level of technology will allow. This limits me to 4 GB of physical RAM and...

    Speeding Up the Page File

I checked it out, and it sounds cool, but there's one or two minor problems. The biggest of these is that I don't have a SATA controller on my mobo, and adding one via a pci slot isn't possible as I've only one free slot in my current configuration... Also, the card it's self is alot cheaper...

    CPU Fan upgrade

yeah man, the extra pin is for data transferes to tell the computer how fast the fan is spinning in RPM (rounds per minute) so the three pin will work fine, you computer just won't be able to tell you through software what the fan is doing

    More RAM?????

I've had some experience with this sort of thing myself. I run alot of high end games, (Earth 2160, SW Empire at War, SW Galaxies... etc.) and I've noticed RAM makes the most dirrenece when it comes to how smooth the game or program runs. With more RAM you'll be able to see more detail at a...

    Speeding Up the Page File

I recently started running Star Wars Empire at War on my 3 year old system. It's holding it's own running low detail graphics, but I want to do everything I can to get my pc running as fast as it can. I've been monitoring system performance for about a month now and when I run high end programs...
