i was wondering why i can't see other computers on my workgroup... the thing is they are all different OS's so.. im guessing thats the problem?
for each computer, i typed in the exact same workgroup name...
so say.. i have computers A, B, and C.
A would be able to see B in the "my workgroup"...
i cant see the computers in the other room through "microsoft windows network" or "my workgroup" or in any other way...
i can ping both computers and stuff.. but im wondering why the gui isnt present for the two computers im trying to network...
yeah i can
i had problems accessing other computers through gui in the past.. is this the way to go about to form connections with other computers? for some reason, i want to access this other computer from a different room. and i can access EVERY other computer in this floor, except for that...
Error 85 simply means that the drive was already mapped, and the script could not re-map it.
what does this mean? why does a computer map a drive, or what does mapping a drive do?
sorry =/ but it says the network name cannot be found. i can ping both computers though...
hmm..if it helps any, the client pc is windows 2k and the remote one is win 98..
im sorry.. i guess im kinda slow..
this is what i typed in
net use c:\ \\dell xps t500\chris
dellxpst500 is my computer name and
chris is my user name...
did i type something wrong?
and they are different OS's so.. does that matter?
thanks so much for ur help so far
can i use an ip address instead?
and im doing this cause im trying to backup files on the other computer to this computer's external hard drive. so i can xfer files too right?
i was wondering if there was a command or way for me to access another computer's files through msdos.
and if so, what commands do i use? they are on the same network and have file sharing enabled, so i was wondering if this was possible.
thank you
