Thanks for all the help guys. My laptop is now running smooth as before and got my internet back. I just need to get a new mains adaptor now as i think this may be what is making my laptop sluggish, as it runs fine off the battery just not when plugged in to the mains.

Ok ive sorted the Internet now. The laptop runs perfectly just running off the battery its just when i plug it to the mains that it slows right down. Am going to get a new mains adaptor and see if that has any impact...

Yes that's the message I get. I have tried to diagnose connection problem but get a runtime error. I have found out by chance that if I run the avg scan without the mains power supply attached it runs much quicker. Strangely though, when it is plugged in to the mains now, the light indicator...

Also, when scanning in AVG, its when it gets to scanning the 'file system' that it really slows down.

I have managed to run the malwarebytes programme in safe mode which detected a number of threats which I have got rid of. My laptop is still running slow as ever though and can't run an avg scan in normal mode. Any help anyone?
