have rootkit infection

some one said if i delete all any partitons, recreate partitions, and reformat this will get rid of the rootkit. i know nothing about computers, so does anyone know exactly step by step how to do this? :neutral:thanks
 
What brand name and model pc do you have? What version of windows are you running?
Do you have the recovery/restore disks, or a windows disk to re-install your operating system?
 
toshiba satelite,windows xp, yes i have disk to reinstall operating system

For rootkits, I've had good luck with TSSDKiller and Panda AntiRootkit.

I would suggest giving those 2 tools a run.

After that, run ComboFix from BleepingComputer: ComboFix Download

Post all of your logs here.
 
If it's infected with a rootkit, honestly you shouldn't be using it at all until it gets fixed.

And if now you say you'll be fine...why make a thread about it in the first place? :S
