XP System Restore Problems

I am not able to use system restore on my xp sp2 machine. Windows website does not offer much help. I have tried to restore in safe mode, command prompt and regular boot up. It looks like restore gets about half way done and then the machine reboots. I get a message that says restore cannot restore to that point. I have tried several different dates to no avail. Help please!!!!

Try turning off auto-reboot so we can potentially see a BSOD error...

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> System > Advanced
Under the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings...
Under System Failure un-check "Automatically restart"
