Problem with XP results from adding XP components

Trying to set up a personal webserver on desktop.

Doing this proceedure creates a rebooting problem computer!
Tryed Start-Control Panel-Add/Remover Software Icon
Then add/Remove windows components.
Then checked Internet Information Services (IIS) checkbox
Machine ask for orginal disk in drive.
Machine accesses orginal set up disk.
Machine reboots.
It goes to first window logo window then
flashes a blue screen for a fraction of a second.
machine reboots.
machine auto reboots over and over and over etc....
Push F8 for safe mode.
machine auto reboots after selecting safe mode.
machine will not reset to a previoius state or correct itself by using
any other available selections. All those selections result with a rebooting
machine.

So I do a reinstall by reformatting the drive and start reinstalling.

Well at least I am back on line with all those headachs
so what going on and how do I avoid those kind of
problems in the future. Is there a way to create
a back up to avoid such a mess when adding windows xp components

Now I am ready to reinstall VS.net 2002 but mentions a proceedure for installing internet services. Is there a way to avoid XP rebooting and install that
component????
