Do you have 1 or 2 Optical Drives on your system? Could be that if you have 2 the other Optical Drive is the one used for boot and not the one you are trying.

that's what I"m thinking. some mobo are like that and they won't let you boot from 2 cd rom drives, just the master. I just had that issue on dell dimension 2400 that I was fixing
