xp pro reboot prob

my system has adopted a new procedure... when i reboot, xp tells me, as normal that it is shutting down, the screen powers off but the tower is still running. i have to press the reset button and it loads xp as normal.

otherwise when i press the click the turn off computer button it shuts completely down.

any ideas??

Did you do any recent driver updating, bios updates?
It sounds like your computer no longer recognizes your PC as ACPI compliant.

Look in the device manager and see what it says under the Computer group.

it says that it is a apci multiprocessor comp and that the device is working normally.

no, i did not do any driver updating.
