Ok so I have several files that I had encrypted on my old computer and when I went to format my hard drive for the first time in awhile, I backed them up along with all my other files. Now that I have my new computer, I got those files back but I can't open them! They are all in "green" text showing they are encrypted. Is there anyway at all i can get my permissions back so I can open these files?? Thanks!

Have you tried taking ownership of the files first?

taking ownership of the files will not solve the problem

Only the following people can decrypt an encrypted file.
• The user who encrypted the file
• Any user who was designated as a recovery agent before the file was encrypted
• Any user who has the public key or private key for the recovery agent or the user that originally encrypted the file
• Any user who has been granted access to the file

Advanced EFS Data Recovery (AEFSDR) is a program to recover (decrypt) files encrypted on NTFS (EFS) partitions created in Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. Files are being decrypted even in a case when the system is not bootable and so you cannot log on, and/or some encryption keys have been tampered.

It worked, but only decrypted the first 512 bytes of files haha. It's asking for $100 for the rest haha.
