Default XP on P3 w/ 200GB HD

Hey guys,

Ive just come across and old P3 system and i want to install windows XP on it.

I chucked in a 200GB drive i had in to the PC. Booted windows XP disc, but whenever i pass the first stage of windows (partitioning and loading the install files) after it reboots it says "Could not load operating system".

I have a feeling its something to do with the Bios only showing the drive as 136GB.

What can i do to make windows install?

Send a message via AIM to jcortes

Maybe your motherboard does not support drives over 137gb. try installing a PCI IDE card with 48 bit LBA compatibility. that should fix the 137gb limit. because if your running a P3 the board has got to be quite old.

I found a solution on the seagate website, they had a little tool that worked.

Thanks for your help.

Its a little hard to understand the instructions but just completeley formatt the drive then run the "Setup this Drive" wizard.

It wills till show the drive as 136GB, but it lets windows boot, then you can partition the rest of the drive.
