Default XP Home Problems

Hey, I just done a clean install of XP-H and everything is playing up... I can't open Outlook Express, the splash screen just opens and locks up. I downloaded AIM and that refuses to open. I have SP2 on CD which quits as it starts to install. Windows Update will not install anything...

What causes XP to become so batty? Any solutions?

Thanks

Formatted the drive "format c:" and then installed.

Few blinks during install, might have had something to do with it?

Also another annoying thing - when I type an address and hit enter, it doesn't always bother to go to the page.
