Writing pdf documents

i have decided to write an e-book, and i want to have it as an adobe reader file. but i do not know how to write a pdf file or what program to use. also it doesn't absolutely have to be pdf. if there are any other file types similar to pdf then please tell me.

if you have adobe pro, you can write what you need in Word and then convert it to pdf which is easier.

PDF Redirect is pretty easy, it shows up as a printer and saves as a PDF file.

MS Office has a plug in this method costs money.

Open Office will do it for free but takes up 7 times the system resources to run.

I use Openoffice.org, which you can save files as PDF
Microsoft Office 2003 gives you a virtual printer which saves files to PDF also
