"Word" query

A customer has complained of corrupt Word files, I noticed what she is saying is corrup has "~$" before each suspect do***ent
I have deleted these as the file still exists

I know if you look in the folder of an open Word Do***ent it is listed with the said characters ie "~$olidays"

What would cause approx 10 do***ents listed as above, is it possible the PC was powered off with do***ents still open

Those are temp files for the do***ent that is open...they shouldny even be visibile. The only time you would see them is if you have hidden files viewable. These files should never be used as they are not a real do***ent.

They are there in case your computer crashes while typing the do***ent and you didnt save...then when you launch word again it will say something like word crashed and recovered yadda yadda.doc would you like to recover? It recovers from that temp file. I would throw away any of them you see if you dont have that specific do***ent open.
