word file is corrupted??

I just tried to open this word file i had written earlier and i got the following message
Requesting file conversion
FIle conversion
is the file corrupted, this never happened before

you probably didn't, but are you trying to open in a different editing program, or did you install a newer version?

no, i was using office XP before and after the incident.
