Trying to use word 2013. When I select columns> how do i delete columns. What am I doing wrong?

Is this a table?

The old, and still working way, was while the curser is in the column, hold Alt Press A, then Press D, then Press C.

Or right click the column, click delete

Or while in the column, click layout in the ribbon, then click delete and it'll show options to delete.
