Thanks for that. I did try and run the cds in safe mode (it was F8) before I posted here (see above)... to no avail, but I will try and run the 'new' downloaded drivers this way when I get home and see what happens. Won't hold my breath eh?!?

Just another question while you're here... I know I should probably start a new post or thread or whatever it's called, but because it's my first time on a site like this I hope I'll get away with it..... I notice at the bottom of your posts it lists ad-aware, spybot etc. I have these on my pc, but it's also coming up to the end of my subscription with Trend micro for their pc-cillin software. Do you think I should re-subscribe, or if I have all the ones you mention, do I need the Trend stuff?

Thanks again for all your help - Nicky

there are plenty of free alternatives to subscription anti viruses and they work very well indeed:

AVG:
http://www.grisoft.cz/filedir/inst/a...e_476a1048.exe

Avast:
http://files.avast.com/iavs4pro/setupeng.exe

Bitdefender:
Download Free Products

Most likly pc-cillin has built in firewall so you would need a free one I recommend zone alarm:
http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/fre...zaSetup_en.exe

there is also comodo:
http://download.comodo.com/cpf/downl...2.4.18.184.exe

At present I use Avast free edition and on other pc`s I use zonealarm and one with comodo both work fine. I would say download AVG and Zonealarm iv used both with no problems.

Now as with your wireless problems...do you still see a yellow ! in device manager? if you go to start>control panel then open network connections do you see any wireless devices?

Thanks for that.

Yes, I remember there was still a yellow exclamation mark next to the Cohiba device. I can't remember what it said in network connections. Will check and get back to you when I get home.

Until then, thanks again

Nicky

I had a problem like yours while experimenting with a older laptop, I found a fix that might help you,

Copy the driver from the CD and burn it to a disk then insert your usb device into the slot you wish to use, when windows detects the device tell it to look for the driver on the CD you have made, for some reason it seems to work.

Hope that helps you.

Smile Re: Wireless software won't load after re-format

Thanks for your help everyone, I'm sitting typing this from my own pc... In the end I cheated I'm afraid. I tried the last suggestion from Chris, but to no avail, so I threw the thing in the car and took it back to the shop. They got it running there and then for me.... I'll see if I can give a fair description of what they did:

They couldn't read the disc on my machine either, so they did a wired connection to the internet and downloaded the current version of the drivers from Microsoft (who would have thought it) while they were on line.

They installed the drivers and all I had to do is bring it home, plug it in and input the wep key - bingo, it works!

Apparently, the reason it wouldn't work for me is: After they did the reformat a couple of days ago, they installed a newer version of windows (not my original one that came with the pc 3 years ago) this one comes bundled with windows explorer that can't be 'un-bundled' and has a version of flashplayer that was stopping the installation disc from being accessed (flashplayer is older on the wanadoo cd)

Does that make sense?

I'd just like to thank you again for taking the time to help me with this. It seems the people in the shop did exactly what you were telling me to do, but perhaps because they were able to establish a wired connection first it did the trick - don't understand it myself!

Many thanks once again - I know where to come now if I have any problems in the future.

Regards, Nicky
