Every time I try to open ie I get a dns error, the funny thing is a "windows installer" window pops up asking for an ms office cd to install the selected applications. i'm not using office and it's not even open, all i'm doing is opening ie.

anyone have a clue?

windows xp pro (which i just had to repair using stystem restore)
hp pavilion ze4315us
amd athalon

The problem comes from the fact that IE doesn't really exist in the same way that Firefox, Netscape, or Opera exist. The IE browser is an extension of the Explorer file navigation system within Windows, and many plugins and stuff tie into it.

And all you have to do to make it go away is pop in the Office cd and it will cure itself. Usually this happens if you've cleaned off the start menu. Liz
