Hey all,
Building a new PC and wondering if I can use my current copy of XP on my new machine. My current PC and OS setup:
1. Old compaq (Win 95 or 98) - Never Used
2. Dell PC (Win ME, with upgrade to XP) - Rarely Used
3. Dell Lappy (Win XP) - Always Used
4. New Build (nothing)
Can I reformat #2, install Win ME again and take the XP upgrade and move it to my new machine? I rarely use this machine - it will just assist me in setting up #4 since my brother is taking #3 to college.
OR
Can I somehow get the OS from #1, put it on #2, and move the whole ME->XP package to #4?
If neither, can I buy the retail "upgrade" for #4 instead of buying just normal retail (which is like $100 more?)
Thanks.
RM
EDIT: I am asking because I'm trying avoid wasting money, but want to keep everything legit.
